CHARLESTON, S.C. – B-CU volleyball closed out the Playa Bowls Invitational Saturday afternoon, losing to Charleston Southern, 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-15), at Buccaneer Arena.
The first set went back-and-forth, with neither team able to gain more than a two point advantage. A service ace by Alayah Rhodes put the Wildcats (2-6) in front 24-23. But Charleston Southern (6-4) took the final three points to win the set on the back of Jenna Kitchens's two kills.
The Buccaneers then jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the second set and were able to maintain the lead throughout. CSU recorded 15 kills while holding B-CU to a 0.049 hit percentage.
The third set saw the Bucs go on a 6-0 scoring run to put them ahead 11-4. From there, they were able to thwart any opportunity for a Wilcats' comeback and complete the 3-0 sweep. They hit .538 for the set with just two errors.
- Alayah Rhodes led the Wildcats with 10 kills.
- Laura Lino dos Santos finished with a team-high nine digs.
- Nola Hemphill collected 15 assists, while Kylynn White had 13.
- The Wildcats hit .165 for the game.
- B-CU tied a season-low with just two total blocks.
- Three Buccaneers finished with 10 digs.
Bethune-Cookman returns to South Carolina to face off against former MEAC rival South Carolina State. The two teams will play on Friday and Saturday, beginning at 6 p.m. both days.
