Biography

2016 – Sophomore Season
Played and started in 55 games, missing just one on the year for the Wildcats… Saw most of his time at second and third base, respectfully… Batted .274 for the year… Pounded out 59 hits in 215 at-bats across the campaign… His at-bats ranked him tied for the second-most in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) on the year… Ranked second on the team and third in the conference with 246 total plate appearances… Tied for seventh in the league being hit by a pitch on 11 occasions… Finished third on the Wildcats roster and tied for seventh in the conference with a total of seven home runs on the year… His 91 total bases placed him 10th in the league in that category… Defensively, finished with 71 putouts and a team second-highest 132 assists… Held a .949 fielding percentage… Registered a .359 on-base percentage… Used a .423 slugging percentage on the season… Picked up a season-high tying four hits in five at-bats with a run scored and one RBI against Murray State (Feb. 20), adding a double at the dish and six assists in the field… Went 2-for-4 with a season-high matching three RBI and a pair of runs scored, including his first home run of the year, with a pair of assists on defense at UCF (Feb. 23)… Turned in a 4-for-5 night in the second game of the year against UCF (March 9), scoring four times and adding two RBI with a double and home run, adding a putout and two assists in the Wildcats win… Picked up a season-high eight assists and four putouts in the first game of a doubleheader at North Carolina Central (March 19), going 2-for-6 at the plate with a RBI and two runs scored, including a double… Finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored, adding five putouts and four assists against FIU (March 29)… Began the series against Ohio State (April 1) with a 3-for-4 showing at the dish, scoring once, plating a run and batting a double with two putouts and two assists against the Buckeyes… Collected two hits, a run scored, a RBI and six assists at North Florida (April 5)… Turned in a pair of hits in four at-bats with a run scored and his only stolen base of the year in the second game of a doubleheader against Florida A&M (April 16) in Ormond Beach, Florida… Helped clinch the series against the Rattlers the following day (April 17) by going 3-for-5 at the dish with two runs scored, three RBI, a double, two putouts and three assists… Finished the North Carolina A&T series (April 30-May 1) going 6-for-15 at the plate, adding six runs scored, five RBI, a double and a pair of home runs in the series win over the Aggies in Greensboro, North Carolina… Went 2-for-4 in the MEAC Championship game against Norfolk State (May 24), including hitting the game-winning home run in the 1-0 decision over the Spartans… Ended the year with a 1-for-2 day against Georgia Tech (June 4), adding a walk, a putout and assists against the Yellow Jackets in the second game of the NCAA Gainesville [Fla.] Regional…
 
2015 – Freshman Season
Picked up 40 starts and played in 44 games as a true freshman for the Wildcats… Saw most of his time at second base… Batted .277 for the year, finishing fifth on the team in that category… Recorded 41 hits in 148 at-bats… Collected a team-high matching 11 doubles, adding a team-high tying three triples… Tallied 26 RBI – third-most on the team… Used a .392 slugging percentage on the campaign… Was hit by a pitch a team third-most tying six times… Swiped two stolen bases and produced a team-high matching six sacrifice flies… Laid down four sac bunts… Picked up a fielding percentage of .931 for the year with 54 putouts and a team second-most 94 assists… Tallied a 13-game hitting streak from March 8 through April 3… Picked up back-to-back multi-hit performances against North Carolina Central (March 8) and Jacksonville (March 10)… Collected a season-best four RBI in the final game of the NCCU series (March 8)… Went 4-for-6 with two RBI and two doubles in the second game of a doubleheader at North Carolina A&T (March 15)… Also tallied back-to-back two-hit games against UCF (March 17) and FAU (March 18)… Picked up three RBI and a triple in that game against the UCF Knights… Walked twice and registered two hits, a double and a RBI in the series-opening win at Florida A&M (April 3)… Had a perfect defensive day with three putouts and seven assists at N.C. Central (April 11) in the first game of a doubleheader split… Posted a pair of hits and scored twice with a double and a RBI in a victory over Delaware State (May 15), catapulting the Cats inti the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) title series at the conference championships in Salisbury, Maryland…

Prepped under head coach Bart Wible at Royal Palm Beach Community High School… As a senior, batted .358 with six doubles… Tallied a .988 fielding percentage… Won team MVP honors in 2014… Golden Glove award… Named team captain after the third day of practice… Second team all-county… First team all-district… Honorable mention performer for the South Florida region by Perfect Game… Went 3-for-4 as a junior in a preseason game, including a pair of home runs in the game… Team finished third in the district from 2012-14…
 
Personal
Son of Cheryel and Norman Edney… Majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology… Has a sister, Tameka (24)… Member of the A-B honor roll all four years in high school… Served community service for the Police Athletic League, in addition to the Little Smiles Charity event which was a baseball game for kids with disabilities… Away from the diamond, he enjoys listening to music and writing… First impression of B-CU was that everyone was friendly, but also that he loves the beach being close to campus… Favorite sports memory is hitting a walk-off home run in high school… Says a superstition is never taking a shower just before a game… Favorite movie is Training Day… Favorite actors are Kevin Hart and Will Smith… Advice to young people would be “start the habit of hard work at a young age”… Favorite meal is pizza…
