Humphrey enters his second year with the Bethune-Cookman football program, operating in the newly created role of Director of Equipment Operations. In his position, Humphrey helps to keep the Wildcats safe and healthy through proper equipment maintenance and application of top-of-the-practice standards for protection and injury prevention in use.
He also holds responsibilities in ordering and distributing equipment and clothing gear, management of the locker room and overseeing a student manager staff assisting the program both on and off the field.
Prior to working with the Wildcats, Humphrey spent 25 years at Riddell, where he serviced all the high schools and colleges/universities in Florida. During his time with Riddell, he initiated a certification program for helmet and shoulder pad fitting throughout Florida that has not become a national standard, leading to the current 10-Year Policy adopted by all helmet manufacturers and reconditioners across the United States.
He was also integral in the development of an independent certification protocol for helmet use and safety, and led training sessions on maintenance and helmet-based injury techniques with trainers, coaches, and EMTs.
Originally from Daytona Beach, a standout athletic career as a three-time All-State performer at Lake Worth (Fla.) High School led him to attend Troy State University as a running back and defensive back from 1971-75.
Before joining the staff at Riddell, he coached one year of football at Hernando (Fla.) High School.
