Sherrie Tucker

Sherrie Tucker enters into her third year at Bethune-Cookman in 2023-24, serving as the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for the Wildcats under Head Coach Janell Crayton.
 
During the 2023-24 season, Tucker was part of the staff that helped Bethune-Cookman Women’s Basketball finish the season with the most nonconference Division I victories since 2017-18, as the Wildcats won six. Overall, BCU had nine nonconference wins, including two wins at the Georgia State Classic in Atlanta, Georgia.
 
In 2022-23, Tucker and the Wildcats advanced to their first ever Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament, earning the No. 6 seed in Birmingham, Alabama. Throughout the year, the Cats rolled off five consecutive wins which included victories over Alabama State, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern, respectfully.
 
Each year with Tucker on staff, Bethune-Cookman has increased its wins total by at least four every season. In her first year (2021-22), the Cats were 6-21, only to bounce back and finish 11-18 on the 2022-23 season. The 2023-24 campaign saw BCU turn in a record of 15-16, despite the Wildcats being without up to as many as four starters and six players for five games.
 
Tucker joined Bethune-Cookman Women’s Basketball ahead of the 2021-22 season. 

The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native arrived to Daytona Beach after serving as an assistant coach with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for three seasons. In her three years with the Islanders serving under Head Coach Royce Chadwick – the Southland Conference Coach of the Year, Tucker helped lead the Islanders to the program's first-ever Southland Conference Regular Season Championship and the program’s first WNIT Pre-season Tournament appearance. They also earned an appearance in the Southland Tournament Championship game.
 
While with the Islanders program, the team earned numerous individual awards with Alexes Bryant being named Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, Bryant and Dalesia Booth were both named to the conference's All-Defensive Team, All-Conference Second Team and All-Tournament Team. Dae Dae Evans was named to the all-conference third team. 

Tucker began her coaching career at Longwood as an assistant coach in 2013. She was promoted to associate head coach in 2017-18. While with the Lancers, Tucker was directly involved with all aspects of the women's basketball program, including court instruction in practice and game situations, on and off campus recruiting, scouting and film breakdown, individual player development and academic monitoring.

During the 2017-18 season, Tucker worked with Autumn Childress, who earned All-Big South accolades. Childress had 12 double-doubles on the year and led the conference in rebounding. Tucker also helped work with Eboni Gilliam, who graduated as the team's leading scorer and rebounder in 2016-17, earning multiple weekly honors during her career. Gilliam went on to pursue a professional career, earning her club's most valuable player honor while in Spain in 2017-18.

Before embarking on her collegiate coaching career, Tucker played professionally for the Basketball Club Etzella in Ettelbruck, Luxembourg. With the club, Tucker averaged a double-double in league play.
 
Collegiately, as a student-athlete, Tucker played at Coppin State under Head Coach Derek Brown. While in Baltimore, Maryland, Tucker played for the Lady Eagles from 2002-06, winning two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular season titles and two NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament appearances (2005, 2006).
 
Tucker was a two-time MEAC Player of the Year selection in consecutive seasons (2005, 2006) and was named to the 2006 All-MEAC Women's Basketball First Team. During her sophomore year, Tucker was named to the 2004 MEAC Women's Basketball All-Tournament Team. The following season, Tucker led the MEAC in scoring as a junior, averaging 16 points per game and ranked in the top 10 in both field goal and free throw percentage. She helped the Lady Eagles to their best conference record (15-3) in the school's history and their first outright MEAC regular season title. As a senior, Tucker led Coppin State in scoring and rebounding with averages of 13 points and five rebounds per game. She also led the Lady Eagles in seven other categories.
 
After earning Coppin State Women’s Basketball Most Valuable Player award for three consecutive years, her jersey No. 40 was retired and hung in the rafters. She is one of just three players to ever have their jersey retired at CSU. She ended her career ranked third all-time at Coppin State with 1,389 points.
 
In 2016, Tucker was selected to the Coppin State University Athletics Hall of Fame.
 
Tucker earned her bachelor’s degree from Coppin State in 2006, in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Criminal Justice. She is married to LaNiece Tucker. The couple have a daughter – Jeanna Monet Tucker.
