MEAC Commissioner's All-Academic Team (2012-13, 2013-14)

Redshirt Junior Season (2013-14):
Began the season as a reserve forward, but worked her way into the starting rotation quickly, playing in all 30 games and starting in 22 contests…Crawford averaged 3.5 points and 4.8 rebounds and 17.7 minutes per outing…Scored a season-high 13 points at Norfolk State (12/7) while grabbing eight (8) rebounds…Grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds in the streak-snapping victory over Florida A&M (2/22) at Moore Gymnasium…Recorded a career-high 35 minutes in the Lady Wildcats first round MEAC Championships victory over South Carolina State (3/11)…Set a new career high of three (3) blocks against Savannah State (2/1) and recorded a season-best three (3) steals versus Maryland Eastern Shore (1/25)…Completed her Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies with a minor in Political Science and has begun post-graduate studies…Named to the MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team.
Redshirt Sophomore Season (2012-13):
Started in 15-of-29 games at forward for the Lady Wildcats…Averaged 17.8 minutes, putting up 2.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.1 steals per outing, shooting 47.4 percent from the floor on the year…Logged a career-best 29 minutes in two games, at North Florida (11/28) and vs. Delaware State (3/12)…Put in a career-high 14 points in the Stetson Hatter Classic vs. UNC Asheville (12/18), shooting 7-of-9 (77.8 percent) from the floor, grabbing eight (8) rebounds with a career-high four (4) steals…Tallied season highs of nine (9) rebounds vs. Georgia Southern (12/19) and Delaware State (1/26)…Also set a career high for blocks, with three (3) at Coppin State (3/7)…Named to the MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic Team...Studied abroad in Europe during the offseason, based in Toulouse, France, but was able to travel to Barcelona, Spain and Asilah, Morocco as part of the program.
Redshirt Freshman Season (2011-12):
Appeared in 28-of-29-games on the season, as a reserve forward early in the season, but earned her place on the floor, starting 12 of the final 13 games...She averaged 11.4 minutes per game...Had her best showing of the campaign in the 69-65 victory at South Carolina State (2/18) with nine (9) points and 10 rebounds...Crawford also had eight (8) points and seven (7) rebounds at UCF (11/30), shooting .500 from the floor...Crawford Snagged two (2) steals on three different occasions.
True Freshman Season (2010-11):
Did not play basketball, but was on the Wildcats’ track squad, competing in jumps and mid-distance sprint events...She earned first in the high jump at the South Carolina Gamecock Invitational (1/26) with a jump of 1.5m and was also part of the women’s 4 x 400m relay that earned first at the ERAU Indoor Outdoor Challenge (1/22) and sixth at the Miami Hurricane Invitational (4/16)...Throwing the Javelin 22.68m at the MEAC Outdoor Track Championships, she was 16th.
High School:
A 2010 graduate, was a four-year basketball letterwinner playing for Parkway Academy’s back-to-back State Championship teams under Coach Adam Hopkins...Those state title holder teams accumulated a record of 34-6 during Kayla’s time as a forward for the Panthers...In high school, she was active in school chorus and volunteered at several Miami-Dade parks...Played in the Dade vs. Broward and FHSAA All-Star Games...In track, earned a letter as a senior and was 2-A State Runner-Up in the 4 x 400m and 4 x 100m relays.

Born September 24, 1992 in Miami, Kayla is the daughter of Helen Cherry and Fred Crawford...Her mother attended Bethune-Cookman, which influenced her decision to attend B-CU...Kayla has B-CU career goals set to earn MEAC Defensive Player of the Year and leave B-CU with a MEAC Championship ring…Notes Dwyane Wade as her favorite athlete because he never quits…Her most prized possessions are her State Championship rings…Cites her mother and Coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis as the biggest influences in her life…Crawford has completed her Bachelor's Degree in International Business with a minor in Political Science and is pursuing her Master's Degree in Transformative Leadership at Bethune-Cookman.
