Gainesville, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman College once again got back to the track on Saturday as they competed in the Diet Pepsi Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The event was held inside the Stephen C. O'Connell Center on the campus of the University of Florida.

The women's team continues to show signs of improvement week after week as they had one Wildcat post a person record in not only the indoor season, but on the track in collegiate competition PERIOD.

Sophomore Teanne Sergeant set a PR [personal record] in the 400 Meter Dash as she posted a time of 59.19 seconds overall. The time was good enough for second place in her heat of the competition.

"The women competed very, very well today," expressed B-CC head coach Garfield Ellenwood following today's event. "I continue to be impressed by how good the women are getting each and every week in great competitions. They have a good little way to go before the MEAC Championships next month, but if we continue to improve at this pace, then I think we will be very competitive."

The women's 4x400 Meter Relay squad also ran well as they sprinted their way to an eighth place finish with a time of 4:01.90. The team of Sergeant, Britney Gibson, Tenisha Bryan and Tiffany Gordon excited not only their head coach, but themselves after their impressive time. Sergeant registered her second-best split time of the year as the lead-off with a time of 59.26 seconds. Gordon also broke the one-minute time on Ellenwood's clock with 59.82 seconds as her split time.

In the jumps category, freshman Samantha Shade collected sixth place in the Triple Jump with a leap of 11.56m (37-11.25). Gibson finished right behind her at 11.49m (37-08.50).

On the men's side of things, the Wildcats were not to be outdone by their female teammates as freshman Cecil Robertson posted a person record of 50.74 seconds in the 400 Meter Dash.

Craig Johnson registered 11th place overall in the Shot Put with a throw of 13.34m (43-09.25). Teammate Phillip Small finished behind him in 15th place with a throw of 11.38m (37-04.00).

"We still have a lot of work to do for the men," admitted Ellenwood. "They are making improvements, and that's what I am looking for, but we can still be improving at a faster pace. I thought the relay team could have done better than last place, but I guess I have to work harder and the team has to work harder so we can be ready to go for the MEAC Championships."

The Wildcats will take a week off before their next event when they travel to Boston, Mass. for the annual V. Valentine Invitational held at the Track & Tennis Center. The event is set for Friday, February 9. For more information, please call the Bethune-Cookman College Office of Sports Information at (386) 481-2206.
