B-CU's Russell Collects MEAC Weekly Football Award

Sept. 4, 2007

Virginia Beach, Va. - After scoring three rushing touchdowns against Jacksonville University this past weekend, Bethune-Cookman quarterback Jimmie Russell was named as this week's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Russell, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound senior from Jonesboro, Ga., accounted for all three touchdowns B-CU accumulated on Saturday against the Dolphins in the season-opener for both squads. Russell's three-score afternoon tied his rushing TD performance of the 2006 campaign in just one day.

He picked up a game-high 114 yards on the ground while passing for another 103 yards on 7-of-19 completions. His 33-yard scamper on a quarterback-keeper around the left side put the Wildcats on top for good in the second quarter at 14-10 over their counterparts from the northern coast of Florida.

Russell also scored on runs of runs of 13 yards and eight yards, respectively.

For Jimmie Russell, this is his sixth time being named as MEAC Offensive Player of the Week in his four years (2004-07) at Bethune-Cookman. He picked up the award once last season in the opening week as well with a loss to Southern in the Gateway Classic in Jacksonville, Fla.
