On their second road trip of the year, the Lady Wildcats come home with a victory from Durham, N.C. and their matchup with North Carolina Central. B-CU secured a hard-fought victory after holding off a late NCCU rally, making key shots and free throws to win 62-56.
In the early going of the game, the score was knotted up, however the Lady Wildcats forced several turnovers and converted them into points to break away from the Eagles at 22-19. As B-CU went on the offensive, the lead grew, taking the wildcats the Lady Wildcats into halftime up 32-23.
B-CU maintained a steady lead throughout the second half, but with 2:45 remaining, the Eagles went on a run and brought the lead down to just 3 with :33 showing on the clock. NCCU picked the right person to put on the line in the final seconds. Demetria Frank put the game completely out of reach as she sunk 3 crucial free throws to take the lead back out to 6 and end the game at 62-56 in favor of B-C
Several players contributed offensively, but one particular player brought a spark with her play, putting down big shots at important times in the game. Keturah Newkirk led all scorers with 18 points, making 6 of 9 three-pointers. Newkirk also snagged 4 rebounds. Sarah Bolden put in 12 points to assist the offense in the paint.
