Inconsistency by both teams was a huge factor in Saturday night's game between Bethune-Cookman (4-2) and Florida A & M in Tallahassee. The matchup came down to a last-second shot and miss by B-CU to seal the game at 58-57.

After being knotted up early, FAMU jumped out to a double-digit lead of 21-10 that put the Lady Wildcats in a hole for the entire first half. FAMU led by 15 at half with a score of 40-25.

However, as Coach Vanessa Inge said to expect from her teams, the Lady Wildcats did not just lay down in the second half. B-CU came out firing, playing hard-nosed defense, and quickly narrowing the lead and forcing the Rattlers to play more conservatively as they watched their lead disappear. The Lady Wildcats came up with 28 FAMU turnovers, 15 in the second half. Additionally, the Rattlers strong free throw shooting from the first half came to an end, only making 4 of 9 in the second half.

B-CU showed a lot of heart and played strong in the second half, scoring 32 points and only allowing 18 by the home team Rattlers. B-CU shot only 28% in the first half, but turned that around to 35% in the second.

A huge factor in the turnaround was the big play of Euneshia Proctor, who brought a lot of hustle to the court, scoring 8 points (10 total), snagging 7 rebounds (10 total), and grabbing two (of her three total) steals that contributed to huge momentum shifts. Proctor led the team in rebounds.

Leading the Lady Wildcats in scoring was Keturah Newkirk, who put down 24 points, including 7 3-point field goals. She also contributed on defense, grabbing 2 steals and 5 rebounds. Demetria Frank scored 11 points, had 4 steals, and grabbed 6 rebounds.

The victory was within reach, as Proctor grabbed the rebound from a missed shot by Newkirk, and put up a quick shot with 2 seconds on the clock. The ball bounced around the rim, teasing both teams before slipping off the goal and finalizing the score at 58-57 in favor of the Rattlers.

The Lady Wildcats return to action at home, as they face the first of three consecutive home opponents, beginning with Paine College in Moore Gymnasium, 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13.
