DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - After recently wrapping up her career for the LadyCats, Bethune-Cookman volleyball senior Chelle Ticeson is on board for an opportunity to represent her country. Ticeson is traveling to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., for the U.S. Women's National Team tryout, Feb. 19-21. As part of the tryout, Ticeson will compete for a spot on the U.S. Women's Volleyball National Team program and the U.S. Women's Senior A2 teams. She will compete for one of the 24 projected slots on the team, invited for training and competition in the 2010 USA Adult Open Championships in the Open Division from May 29-June 1.

Hugh McCutcheon, the U.S. Women's National Team head coach, will lead the evaluation process for the tryout. Karch Kiraly (U.S. Women's National Team) and Jamie Morrison (U.S. Women's National Team) will also take part in the player evaluations.

"I am extremely proud of Chelle," said B-CU Head Volleyball Coach Vanessa Cogswell. "She has made a mark in history for the volleyball Program over the course of her four years at B-CU, and is still making a mark even after her last season of competition.  It is a huge honor to be invited to try-out for the USA Olympic Team and I know that she will represent the Great Bethune-Cookman University to the highest standards."

Ticeson played in 334 sets over her four years at Bethune-Cookman. Over the course of her career, Chelle accumulated 814 kills, 251 total blocks, and 60 service aces, for a total of 1032.5 points scored. She also got into the defensive mix with 159 digs over her time at B-CU. As a junior, Chelle was named second team All-MEAC and was honored as part of the MEAC All-Tournament team, while finishing the season ranked 21st in the NCAA in hitting percentage. In her senior season, she repeated on conference accolades, again named second-team All-MEAC, and was ranked 37th in the NCAA in hitting percentage, and 48th in aces per set.

Ticeson was also officially invited recently to join the USA Athletes team, representing the United States in the 2010 European Smash Tour in Italy and Austria, slated to run from June 5 - June 14. However, she has chosen to forgo that opportunity to pursue a spot on the USA Olympic team.

"To see her have an opportunity to move forward in her volleyball career to one of the highest levels in the sport is an inspiration to a lot of players who know how difficult it is to do so," concluded Cogswell. "This honor is accredited to her family and to the great person she is inside and out; there could not be a more deserving player than Chelle Ticeson."
