DURHAM, N.C. -
Just because it doesn't count in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference standing means that Bethune-Cookman can lollygag through Monday's game with North Carolina Central.
The Eagles (10-9) will be full members of the conference next year but are playing a full schedule ... and have been extremely competitive with a 5-2 record against league teams. NCCU is currently on a three-game winning streak.
"They'd be one of the teams that would be in the conference race if they were eligible," said B-CU coach Clifford Reed. "They've played some tough opponents and have quality wins."
For B-CU, Monday's game is also about sustaining the momentum as the Wildcats (12-9) head into the second half of conference play. B-CU's won six straight league road games and currently leads the MEAC with a 7-1 mark.
"We want to keep playing and keep improving," Reed said.
Seven wins in January represents the most successful month for B-CU basketball, but a subpar performance could carry over to February.
"Last year we lost to South Carolina State and that game exposed us and snowballed in a negative direction," Reed said. "We want to avoid that this year."
B-CU WOMEN LOOKING TO END MONDAY SLUMP
Some days you win, some days you lose, and some days it rains. And for Bethune-Cookman women's basketball team, there are Mondays.
The Lady Wildcats (10-9) look to snap a three-game losing streak on Mondays when they face the Lady Eagles (2-18) Monday at 5:30 p.m.
B-CU's last four Saturday efforts have been very successful, including an upset of conference leading Hampton and a 64-55 victory over South Carolina State Saturday with just eight players. However, the short-staffed Lady Wildcats have followed those games with losses.
Jasmine Daniels is coming off a career-high 24 point effort Saturday against SC State.
The women's game tips off at 5:30 followed by the men's at 7:30. Audiocast coverage can be accessed at www.goliathradio.com and twitter updates at twitter.com/bcuwldcatnation.
