NEW ORLEANS, La. - Coming off his first performance at the NCAA Division I Track & Field National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, Bethune-Cookman junior hurdler Kemar Clarke tacked on an additional accomplishment for his 2010-11 season. Clarke was named, this week, to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America team as an Honorable Mention.

“It's huge for the program,” said Head Coach Donald Cooper, “to show that we can continue to produce All-Americans. It's definitely an indication of the direction of the program.”

Last week in the national meet, at Drake University, Clarke wrapped up his season with a 19th place finish in the 110m hurdles, crossing the line with a time of 13.881. After starting his season mid-year with time out from competition, it was quite an accomplishment for the junior from Brooklyn, N.Y.

In earning the 19th spot, Clarke also overcame both MEAC opponents who topped him at the MEAC Track & Field Championships in May, Norfolk State's Aramis Massenburg and Maryland Eastern Shore's Ackeem Smith.

As an Honorable Mention All-American, Clarke is the first outdoor track athlete to earn that level of distinction in Coach Cooper's program at Bethune-Cookman.

“We're very excited about next year, and continuing to train to produce All-Americans,” Cooper concluded.
