NORFOLK, Va. – Redshirt senior guard Demetria Frank earned her third conference honor of the season, officials from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced Monday. Frank added another MEAC Defensive Player of the Week Award to her cabinet, after gritty performances last week in wins over Savannah State and Norfolk State.
The 5-9 Miami native earned her third defensive award of the year after grabbing 13 rebounds with five blocks and nine steals on the week. Against SSU, Frank collected eight rebounds, blocked one shot and totaled one steal. In the win over Norfolk State, she posted five rebounds, four blocks and snatched eight steals. Offensively, she added 32 points and six assists for B-CU on the 2-0 week.
When Frank opened the season as the Bethune-Cookman career record holder, the count seemed high enough to hold onto it for a few years, but in 2011-12, she has skyrocketed it from the season opening 320, all the way to 411, and is just 14 shy this year of her own single season record.
At 4.2 steals per game, Frank also has a solid grip on leading the MEAC in the category, is second in NCAA in steals, and is definitely in high consideration for MEAC Defensive Player of the Year in the coming week.
On the other side of the ball, Frank surpassed the 1,500 point mark on the road at South Carolina State, with her current career total sitting at 1,546, with one regular season game and at least a MEAC tournament to go.
The Lady Wildcats return to action in the season finale on Thursday evening with a visit from Coppin State (17-11, 12-3 MEAC). CSU defeated Maryland Eastern Shore 48-47 in Princess Anne Monday night. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. at Moore Gymnasium for the 2011-12 regular season finale.
