NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. - A day that any football player should be looking forward to finally arrived for the Bethune-Cookman 2012 camp; the first in full pads. However, nobody was jumping for joy at the New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex, as the Wildcats conducted the day like any other; routine.
Despite gaining the full contact element, B-CU had a typically intense practice, with only the addition of longer periods of team-based drills put into play. It's clear that the execution emphasis has taken hold with the Wildcats, in their second practice of the day. In the morning practice, the Wildcats went in shells.
"The guys took the opportunity and went with it," said Head Coach Brian Jenkins. "It's a normal day for us, just in pads. The guys practiced hard, executed, paid attention to detail, and tried to do what we do and what we ask of them."
You could hear it in the pop, and see the aggressive approach in the team periods, that the Wildcats were eager to apply what they've emphasized for the past few days of camp in a full-contact environment, with everyone flying around and making plays.
"We put our guys in a position where they have to take the technique, the fundamentals and the basics, and bring it into play," Jenkins said. "That's what we coach, that's what we encourage, and that's what we demand."
Bethune-Cookman will continue in full pads for tomorrow's workout, refining the 2012 team, day by day.
