MIAMI - Bethune-Cookman sprinter Tristie Johnson put in the work to refine her race skills over the weekend, despite heavy weather delays, at the 38th annual Northwest Track & Field Classic, earning victory in both the 100m and 200m races on Sunday afternoon.
A freshman from Jacksonville, Fla., Johnson's rookie campaign continues into June as she looks to hone her skills for both races in preparation for the USATF Senior Nationals, June 20-23 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Johnson made a solid showing Sunday at Traz Powell Stadium, finally taking the track after two days of rain delays. Johnson ran an 11.96 in the 100m and 24.7 in the 200m, winning both events.
“It was a windy day, almost too much in fact,” Head Coach Donald Cooper said. “As a result, times were not what we were looking for, but she did execute the plan. The delays and rescheduling of start times were a good experience for her as we continue to work and get ready for Nationals.
