B-CU Hall of Famer Calvin Jackson Passes Away

Jackson was legendary Miami Northwestern coach

MIAMI – It is with heavy hearts that the Bethune-Cookman Department of Athletics announces the passing of Bethune-Cookman Athletics Hall of Fame member Calvin Jackson, who passed away this week.

Jackson, born December 23, 1953, was inducted into the B-CU Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2016. He lettered in two sports for the Wildcats from 1970-73, competing in both football and track & field. In 1972, Jackson swept the discus and shot put titles at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Track and Field Championships.

He would later go on to preside as head coach of the Miami Northwestern Senior High School in Miami, Florida. Steadily, Jackson helped produce high school track phenoms, while going on to guide the Bulls to the 1991 FHSAA 4-A track championship. In all, he was responsible for more than 50 high school student-athletes winning Florida state championships, in addition to his teams winning 18 district and four regional titles in the process.

Jackson would be enshrined into the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) Track Hall of Fame in 2016.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Miami Gardens. The time is slated for 10 a.m.
