Williams Named Preseason Second Team All-MEAC

NORFOLK, Va. - Bethune-Cookman sophomore center Kailyn Williams garnered a second team selection in the preseason Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) voting, officials from the conference office announced on Thursday (Oct. 16).

A New Orleans native, the 6-5 Williams and her game grew progressively stronger throughout her rookie campaign, finishing the season putting up an average of 6.7 points and 6.6 rebounds per outing. Her 96 blocks on the season not only ranked 10th in the NCAA (First in MEAC), but also was the second most blocks by a Lady Wildcats player in a season and places her third on the B-CU career blocks list.

On the year, Williams recorded a team-leading five double-doubles. She was chosen as a member of the MEAC All-Rookie Team and was a Third Team All-MEAC selection.

Savannah State's Ezinne Kalu was selected as the Preseason MEAC Player of the Year.

In the preseason predicted order of finish, the Lady Wildcats were selected to finish seventh. The 2013-14 B-CU squad finished seventh in the final conference standings, earning a record of 12-18 (8-8 MEAC) and garnering an opening-round victory in the MEAC Championships for the first time since 2010.

Although Hampton earned its fifth straight women's title last season, North Carolina A&T was selected as the preseason favorite by the league's coaches and sports information directors.

The Lady Wildcats open the 2014-15 season with the cross-county matchup at Stetson on Nov. 14, followed by the home opener versus Florida Atlantic on Nov. 16 at historic Richard V. Moore Gymnasium.
