@CookmanTrack at the NCAA Championships: Day 2

EUGENE, Ore. - All three Bethune-Cookman athletes performing at the NCAA Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships ended their runs on the second day of competition, Thursday (June 12) at University of Oregon's Hayward Field, bringing an end to a very successful collegiate season for B-CU.

“Great effort from the Wildcats but no one made it to the finals for us this weekend,” Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Donald Cooper said. “We were just a little too flat this weekend. Everyone felt good and looked good all week in practice, but just could not carry it over to competition.”

“We have a young group that made it out here, so we expect to not only be back, but be in the finals,” Cooper added. “I'm proud of these athletes and my coaching staff for an outstanding season.”

Completing her second event of the meet, sophomore Tristie Johnson took on the first heat of the women's 200m, running a time of 24.12 seconds to finish 22nd in the event semifinal. The Jacksonville (Fla.) native also ran a time of 11.45 seconds in the 100m to finish 18th overall on Wednesday (June 11).

Competing in his first NCAA event as the Wildcats' lone field event qualifier, freshman Kenneth Fisher hit a mark of 7.15m (23-05.50 ft.) in the long jump to finish in 19th place in the semifinal.

Rounding out the final event of the day for B-CU, junior Tremayne Banks rank a time of 14.19 against headwinds in the 110m hurdles semifinal to finish 19th overall.

With no Wildcats advancing to the event finals, Bethune-Cookman's historic collegiate season comes to a close after earning the program's first men's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship, and placing the most athletes at the national championships since 2009.

The next big move for the Wildcats will be elite entrants at the USATF postseason meets. Fisher is qualified for competition at USATF Junior Nationals in Eugene, July 5-6. Both Johnson and Banks are in the running for entry at USATF Outdoor Nationals in Sacramento, Calif., June 19-22.
