Cheerleaders Represent Well At MEAC Championships

NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman's Shaquisha Wilcox was named a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference All-Star at the conference cheerleading championships hosted by Norfolk State Sunday evening.

“Shaquisha is a stand out athlete and has worked so hard this season,” said B-CU cheerleading sponsor Rebekah Woodson. “She has developed into not just a great athlete but a great person too. She is determined and driven and we know next year she will come back even stronger."

The Wildcat cheerleading squad placed third in the co-ed division behind South Carolina State and Florida A&M. Morgan State defended its overall championship.

“Sunday's performance didn't go as well as we would have liked. We know we've done better this season,” Woodson said. “We can use this feeling to push us harder for nationals.”

Bethune-Cookman and Morgan State will be the MEAC's two representative at NCA Nationals in April. It'll be the first time a Wildcat squad has performed in a national competition.

“The chance to do that for the first time in the school's history was a major goal for us this season,” Woodson said. “We will continue to strive for that number one spot.”
