DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman's Tavarus Dantzler didn't get his name called during the NFL draft, but he did get a phone call from the Green Bay Packers, who signed him as a priority free agent Saturday.
Dantzler is expected to report to the team next week.
The St. Louis Rams and Washington Redskins also expressed interest, but Dantzler elected to sign with the Packers after visiting with the team.
Also, his management firm also represents Jean Fanor, another former Wildcat currently on the Packers' practice squad. Green Bay's connection with Bethune-Cookman includes All Pro Nick Collins, who scored a touchdown on a pick six against the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2011.
Dantzler had 80 tackles – 8.5 for loss – and a sack for the Wildcats in 2014. He participated at the National Football League's regional combine in Arizona and stood out at B-CU's Pro Day in March.
