Eagles Light up @BCUWBB during WNIT First Round

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The 2015-16 edition of Bethune-Cookman women's basketball came to an end, as the Wildcat's record-book season closed following a 78-51 loss to FGCU during the opening round of the WNIT Friday, March 18 in Alico Arena on the campus of FGCU.

B-CU (18-13, 12-4 MEAC), wrapped up its historic run with the most wins during the head coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis era at 18, the first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Regular-Season Title and the first post-season appearance in school history.  

The Wildcats also bid farewell to lone senior Jasmine Knowles (Romulus, Mich.) who spent two seasons with the Maroon and Gold after transferring from Western Michigan. During her career, the 5-3 floor general collected 505 points, 309 rebounds, 263 assists and 116 steals while playing in 108 total games and being named to the 2016 All-MEAC Third Team.

Despite an early 4-0 lead from B-CU during the first quarter in was all FGCU the rest of the way.

The Eagles held onto a 22-10 lead after the opening ten minutes of action before the Wildcats battled back in the second, outscoring FGCU 13-7.

After trailing a narrow six points at the half (29-23), B-CU was unable to contain the Eagle's heat from behind the arc as FGCU nailed four three-balls during the third quarter.

The sharp shooting didn't stop in the third as the Eagles opened the final stanza connecting on five-straight from downtown, finishing with seven during the quarter before earning the 78-51 victory.

Rookie Ashanti Hunt (Washington, D.C.) gave Wildcat fans a glimpse of the future, leading B-CU with 14 points and seven boards during the setback, while junior Taylor Houston (Raleigh, N.C.) added 12 points.

Knowles finished her career finale with eight points, seven board and four assists while playing in all 40 minutes.

FGCU was led by Whitney Knights' 21 points, 16 boards, four assists and five blocks, while four Eagles finished in double figures during the WNIT opening round victory.

The Eagles knocked down an impressive 15 three's compared the B-CU's two.
