ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Rakaya Neely and
Faith Landreneaux each had nine kills, and Bethune-Cookman hit a season-best .318 in its 3-0 (25-14,25-22,25-14) Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division over host South Carolina State Sunday afternoon.
Neely, a senior, hit .667 and also registered five blocks while Landreaux, a freshman, hit .538 as the Wildcats (4-7 overall, 2-0 MEAC) made it 2-2 on this road swing to start conference play.
Bethune-Cookman hit .571 as a team to take the opening set and pulled away from a 10-8 lead in the third to beat the Bulldogs (1-15,0-2) for the eighth consecutive time dating back to 2013.
Alana Handy and
Alondra Bautista added eight and seven kills, respectively, for the Wildcats. Setter
Phalen Clark posted 36 assists, seven digs and four blocks while libero
Rechez Lindsay had eight digs.
Alexus Holt had 13 kills and seven digs for the Bulldogs.
Bethune-Cookman travels to Jacksonville Tuesday.
