BOCA RATON, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Women's Golf claimed a pair of top 10 performances on Tuesday, as the Wildcats had two student-athletes competing as individuals in the FAU Fall Invitational held at the Osprey Point Golf Club. The two-day, 36-hole event was hosted by Florida Atlantic across October 16-17 in Boca Raton, Florida.
Mackenzie Butzer, a senior from Chatham, Ontario, finished tied for third in the field after firing a two-round collective score of 136 (-8). Her opening round of 6-under 66 allowed her to sit tied atop the field heading into Tuesday's final round. She would close with a 2-under 70, allowing her a tie for third on the final leaderboard standings.
Butzer tied with Seminole State's Tuan-Yu Chang (67-69=136, -8) for the tournament.
Also picking up a top 10 finish was junior
Yudika Rodriguez of Salinas, Puerto Rico. Rodriguez opened with a 1-under 71 on Monday, coming back a day later to record a 3-under 69 scorecard. She would finish tied for seventh on the final leaderboard with a collective scorecard of 140 (-4) across her 36 holes of golf.
She matched Daniella Castaneda (70-70-140, -4) of Florida Atlantic, as well as the host Owls' Jennifer Keim (67-73=140, -4) in the final standings.
Similar to the season opener, Bethune-Cookman only field two golfers and did not factor into the team scoring for the event.
Seminole State (277-289=566, -10) took the team tournament trophy, while the team winners' Worapitcha Anndit (67-66=133, -11) was the individual medalist for the tournament. Lily Downs (66-69=135, -9) of UTEP was second.
The Wildcats will be back in action at the Tiger Fall Invitational hosted by Savannah State in Savannah, Georgia. The event will take place October 30-31.
