Butzer Wins SSU Tiger Fall Invite

Butzer takes individual medalist, Rodriguez is runner-up

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Mackenzie Butzer and Yudika Rodriguez of Bethune-Cookman Women's Golf finished first and second, respectively, at the SSU Tiger Fall Invite held at Crosswinds Golf Club. The two-day, 36-hole event was hosted by Savannah State and ran October 30-31, in Savannah, Georgia.

Mackenzie Butzer, a senior from Chatham, Ontario, produced rounds of 74 and 71 in order to claim individual medalist honors in the annual Savannah State fall event. The Ursuline College product tallied a collective 145, finishing 1-over par en route to her second top-five finish of the fall campaign. Her second round 1-under 71 scorecard was second-lowest only to teammate Yudika Rodriguez during Tuesday's final18 holes of play.

Just behind Butzer by a single stroke was fellow Bethune-Cookman teammate and junior Yudika Rodriguez. The Salinas, Puerto Rico native carded an opening round 4-over 76, only to bounce back with the tournament's lowest card on Tuesday on the strength of a 2-under 70 scorecard. That allowed the Guamani Private School product to finish second on the final tournament leaderboard with a collective 146 (+2) tournament. Similar to Butzer, the top-five finish was her second of the fall season.

In the team portion of the event, BCU was competing with just the pair of Wildcats and did not factor into the final standings.

North Carolina A&T (307-302=609, +33) claimed the team trophy for the event, followed by Savannah State and Hampton to round out the top three participating teams.

Bo Young Park (73-74=147, +3) of North Carolina A&T rounded out the top three individual performers on the final leaderboard.

Bethune-Cookman will now take the traditional winter break before returning to the links February 25-27, traveling to compete in the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Spring Classic in Kiawah Island, South Carolina.
