@BCUWBB Game Day: Wake Forest (WNIT)

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Bethune-Cookman makes its second straight appearance in the WNIT Thursday when the Lady Wildcats meet Wake Forest at 7 p.m.  in the LJVM Coliseum.

The Lady Wildcats (21-10) earned an automatic WNIT berth after clinching the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season championship for a second straight year.

Wake Forest (15-15) is also making its second straight WNIT appearance, and all together, will be making its seventh all-time appearance in the postseason its sixth WNIT bid. Wake Forest is 4-5 all-time in the WNIT and has an all-time postseason record of 5-6 which includes a 1-1 mark in NCAA Tournament play.

B-CU UPDATE: B-CU saw its program-best 12-game winning streak end with a 52-49 loss to Hampton in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament Saturday … Despite the loss, the Lady Wildcats' defensive efforts at the tournament moved them into the top ten (ninth) in scoring defense at 54.2 and just behind Baylor in field goal percentage defense (31.4 to 31.7) … Kailyn Williams remains fifth on the all-time blocks list with 456; the senior leads the nation in blocked shots per game (4.07) and is tied with Chattanooga's Jasmine Joyner for the national lead with 122 .. Williams, who is also tenth on the active rebounding list needs 12 boards to become the second Lady Wildcat to record 1,000 in her career; Rosina Pearson is the all-time leader with 1,286 … Kendra Cooper's 258 three-pointers is 21st best among active players …Taylor Houston, a Raleigh product, averaged 13.3 points and six boards at the MEAC tournament … B-CU faced one ACC opponent this season, dropping a 59-38 decision at Clemson in December.

ABOUT WAKE FOREST: The Demon Deacons were knocked out of the ACC tournament by Virginia 61-44 … Sophomore Elisa Penna leads four Demon Deacon averaging double figures  with 13.6 points per game while fellow sophomore Ariel Stephenson scores 12.6 points per game and leads the team with 87 assists on the season. Junior Amber Campbell is averaging 11.7 points per game and senior Milan Quinn with 10.5 points and 9.3 rebounds.
