DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Matea Roki posted a singles and doubles victory, but Bethune-Cookman dropped a 4-1 decision to South Carolina State in its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's tennis opener Friday at City Island Tennis Center.
South Carolina State (3-8,3-0) won the doubles point on a tie-breaker, then took three out of four singles matches to send the Lady Wildcats to 5-9 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Roki, a junior, won her No. 3 singles match and combined with
Alejandra Vidal for a win at No. 2 doubles.
Debora Echeverria and
Phatsimo Ruele were leading their respective matches when play was halted.
Bethune-Cookman returns to action next Sunday at Savannah State.
