Women's Tennis Gets MEAC Road Win At SSU

Matsuba Sets Doubles Career Win Record In 6-1 Victory

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Mina Matsuba posted her 66th career doubles victory, setting a Bethune-Cookman school record as the Lady Wildcats downed Savannah State  6-1 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match Sunday.

The senior from Mie, Japan, passed the old mark of 65 set by Olga Rusilova from 2004-2007 as Matsuba and Debora Echeverria combined for a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles that helped the Lady Wildcats (6-9 overall, 1-1 MEAC) take the doubles point.

Echeverria, Matea Roki and Alejandra Vidal each won at both singles and doubles. Karen Romero took a singles match.

Roki improved to a team-best 8-6 in both singles and doubles while Echeverria improved to .500 (7-7) with her third straight win.

Savannah State (0-21,0-5) registered its lone point when Sandy Mochu downed Matsuba at No. 1 singles.

Bethune-Cookman takes to the road for two conference matches at North Carolina A&T Friday and North Carolina Central Saturday.
