GREENSBORO, N.C. – Matea Roki's three-set victory at No. 2 singles lifted shorthanded Bethune-Cookman to a 4-3 victory over North Carolina A&T in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's tennis match Friday afternoon.
The Wildcat men dropped a 4-3 decision to the Aggies.
Roki, a junior, downed Khalia Powell 2-6,6-1,7-6 as the Lady Wildcats (7-9 overall, 2-1 MEAC) won their fifth one-point match of the season while competing with just five players.
Alejandra Vidal, who combined with Roki for a win at No. 1 doubles and
Mina Matsuba also posted singles victories for Bethune-Cookman, who can clinch a berth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament with a win Saturday at North Carolina Central.
Roki improved to 9-6 in both singles and doubles and remained unbeaten in MEAC play (3-0 in both singles and doubles) this season.
North Carolina A&T fell to 4-13 and 2-2.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Bethune-Cookman saw a 3-1 fade as North Carolina A&T (1-13,1-2) rallied to down the Wildcats (1-15,0-2) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference match.
The Wildcats took the doubles point on wins from
Jose Plazas/Juan Ruiz and
Alvaro Barrera/David Ocampa, then got singles victories from Plazas and Barrera to take a two-point lead.
Bethune-Cookman needs to beat North Carolina Central today to remain alive for a tournament berth.
