CLEMSON, S.C -- Bethune-Cookman completed play in the Big Orange Bash with 3-1 losses to Lamar (23-25, 25-22,25-17,25-22) and Jacksonville (37-35,25-17,22-25,25-22) Saturday at Clemson University.
Freshman
Jordan Jefferson double-doubled in both matches for the Wildcats, now 0-3.
MATCH TWO VS. JACKSONVILLE
Jefferson (15 kills, 17 digs) and
Alana Handy (19 kills, 20 digs) each double-doubled in a match that saw its first set extended as both teams were denied on a combined 13 set points before Jacksonville (2-1) finally won.
Faith Landreneaux added 15 kills and
Rakaya Neely 11 for the Wildcats.
J'nai Higgins' 56 assists tied her for the third-best single match total in program history, while Jefferson's 65 assists were sixth best.
MATCH Â ONE VS. LAMAR
Jefferson posted a 14-kill, 13-dig double-double while
Alana Handy added 10 kills as Bethune-Cookman's strong start faded.
After taking the first set, the Wildcats saw a 20-17 lead in the second set dissipate.
In the fourth set, had leads of 21-19 after a Jefferson kill and 22-20 on a service error, but the Cardinals closed on a 5-0 run to clinch the match.
Neely and
Miranda White each had six kills for the Wildcats. Higgins finished with 35 assists, while
Courtney Blanton added eight assists when Higgins was temporarily sidelined with an ankle injury.
B-CU returns to action at the Bash In The Boro next weekend at Georgia Southern, facing Charlotte Friday at 5 p.m.Â
