STATESBORO, Ga. -- Jordan Jefferson had 16 kills and 23 digs, and
Alana Handy posted 12 kills and 21 digs as Bethune-Cookman downed Charlotte 3-2 (21-25,27-25,25-23,20-25,15-12) in the Bash at The Boro Friday at Georgia Southern.
Rakaya Neely added 12 kills,
Rechez Lindsay 22 digs, and setter
Phalen Clark 49 assists and 11 digs as the Wildcats (1-3) won their first match of the season.
Charlotte (3-3) took a 6-3 lead in the fifth set before the Wildcats rallied to take an 8-7 lead on a
Meraiah Hill kill and 10-8 on a Handy kill. Charlotte tied it again at 10, but Bethune-Cookman scored four of the next five points to force match point, and Neely delivered the kill for the victory.
Jefferson, a freshman, has double-doubled in all four matches. Clark was making her appearance of the season after missing opening weekend.
"Definitely a big win and definitely a team," said B-CU Head Coach
Brittany Williams, now 3-3 in five-set matches. "We got contributions from everyone, especially the bench and learned how important it is to finish."
Charlotte led 25-24 in the second set before two Neely kills helped the Wildcats score the final three points and even the match at one set apiece.
Two Handy kills and a Neely service ace helped B-CU erase a 23-21 deficit in the third set.
Hill had eight blocks and seven kills.
Bethune-Cookman faces Georgia Southern at 10 a.m. Saturday, then North Florida at 5 p.m.
