BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Bethune-Cookman fell behind quickly to Florida Atlantic's warp speed offense and never recovered as the Owls posted a 45-0 victory before a crowd of 16,743 at Howard Schnellenberger Field at FAU Stadium Saturday night.
Florida Atlantic (1-2) racked up 286 yards on 29 first-quarter plays and took a 14-0 lead that could have been 21-0 had it not been for
Diquan Richardson forcing a Devin Singletary fumble at the Wildcat goal line that
Trenton Bridges recovered for a touchback.
The Wildcats made their best offensive purge immediately, with a 26-yard Larry Brihm to
Ja-Quan Lumas pass putting Bethune-Cookman at the FAU 39 before the drive stalled.
Florida Atlantic responded with a nine-play, 72-yard dash in 2:29  that resulted on Daniel Parr's 9-yard keeper that put the Owls ahead 7-0. After recovering an onside kick, FAU made it 14-0 three minutes later when  Parr hit Harrison Bryant on a 5-yard score.
Parr added a second-quarter rushing touchdown for the Owls, who led 21-0 at halftime. He finished 15 of 26 for 165 yards.
Greg Howell rushed for 110 yards and Singletary 109 to key FAU's running game.
The Wildcats (1-2) were held to 116 total yards and saw the end of
Jawill Davis' 23-game pass catching streak.
Michael Jones rushed for 48 yards on 11 carries for the Wildcats, while Lumas had three catches for 38 yards and
Anthony Cruz two catches for 13 yards. On defense, Richardson registered his second interception of the season in addition to posting nine tackles. Bridges had two sacks along with his fumble recovery.
The victory was the first for Lane Kiffin as FAU coach, marking the second time a FAU coach registered his first win against Bethune-Cookman. Schnellenberger registered the program's first win with a 31-28 decision against the Wildcats in 2001.
Bethune-Cookman concludes its four-game season opening road trip next Saturday at Howard, which is also its 2017 Mid-Eastern Athletic  Conference opener.
