SAVANNAH, Ga. – Alana Handy registered 10 kills and hit .500 as Bethune-Cookman opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division play with a 3-0 (25-18,25-17,25-18) victory at Savannah State Friday.
The 2016 MEAC Co-Rookie Of The Week finished strong with six third-set kills that helped the Wildcats (3-7 overall, 1-0 MEAC) snap a four-match losing streak and defeat the Tigers (2-13,0-1) for the 35
th consecutive time.
Jai Champan had eight kills and eight digs, while
Rakaya Neely and
Faith Landreneaux added seven kills apiece. Neely also hit .500.
Setter
Phalen Clark posted 37 assists and nine digs.
The Wildcats only trailed twice in the match, both 2-1 deficits.
In the first set, B-CU pulled away to a 20-10 lead on a block by
Jordan Jefferson and
Miranda White. The second set saw the Wildcats turn a 11-10 lead into 17-13.
The Wildcats conclude the opening weekend of MEAC play Sunday at South Carolina State.
