@BCUWBB Stays Unbeaten In MEAC With 58-51 NSU Win

NORFOLK, Va. -- Chasimmie Brown posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds; and Emily Williams and Angel Golden each scored 10 as Bethune-Cookman downed Norfolk State 58-51 in a key Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Wildcats (14-4 overall, 6-0 MEAC) won their sixth straight and remained atop the MEAC standings while snapping the Spartans nine-game winning streak. Bethune-Cookman has now 16 consecutive regular season league games dating back to last season.

Golden had six fourth-quarter points, including a three-pointer that sparked a 10-4 run after Norfolk State cut an 11-point deficit to 43-42 with 6:42 remaining. Ashanti Hunt and Lyndsey Edwards each jumpers that gave the Lady Wildcats seven-point leads at 53-46 and 55-48.

Brianna Hardee finished with nine points, four on a 7-0 third quarter run that pushed B-CU's lead to 39-28.

Bethune-Cookman scored 16 unanswered points in the first half to turn a 8-6 deficit into a 22-8 lead, but the Spartans narrowed the gap to 30-24 at halftime.

Kayla Roberts led Norfolk State with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

This was Brown's fourth double-double of the season and fifth of her career.

Bethune-Cookman meets Hampton Monday at 5 p.m. in a rematch of the 2017 MEAC tournament championship game.

HEAD COACH VANESSA BLAIR-LEWIS

"That's what we do … key in on teams defensively and try to take away the best things they do…the big thing tonight was capitalizing on our full court press."

"Chas adjusted. Their posts were a lot bigger than her and she was scoring off the dribble, knocking down her free throws and rebounding."

"Hardee had a big assignment guarding a post player, but she said 'Hey I got it'…She was successful in our zone and came up with big shots on offense.."

"Lyndsey's defense is what she does well. She did a great job for us."

"We stayed together, sustain the runs and hit some big shots. "

"Monday is a game everyone has circled on their calendars."

CHASIMMEE BROWN

"I came in knowing what I had to do for my team and got the task done."

"I think I did good finding the open shots."

"We had to lock in and do what we do best -- defense."

Briana Hardee

"Defending Kayla Roberts was tough - she was strong, but I was going to do what I had to do. The mindset was on defense and rebounding --- scoring just came along."

"I liked that I could the players in front of me. I didn't let anyone beat me off the dribble. Offensive boards were a big thing."
