Jordan Jefferson had 13 kills and a career-high 28 digs, Skyla Whittaker a career-high 12 kills and
Faith Landreneaux 10 kills, two services and three blocks as Bethune-Cookman downed South Carolina State 3-1 (25-18,25-19,23-25,25-21) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division match Friday in Historic Moore Gym.
The Lady Wildcats (9-11 overall, 2-2 MEAC) also got seven kills from
Delaine Fulton, 23 digs from
Shayla Eugene and 44 assists and 19 digs from
J'nai Higgins to down the Bulldogs (1-19,1-3) to improve to 12-0 in Moore Gym (16-1 overall) in conference play in the
Brittany Williams era.
Whittaker, a freshman, had seven kills and hit .636 in the opening set as Eugene's 11-point service run helped B-CU turn an 18-14 deficit into a set victory.
B-CU also erased 7-2 and 10-6 deficits in the second set, and trailed 7-2 early in the fourth.
Jade Smith and Fulton combined for four kills on a 5-0 run that gave B-CU a 13-10 advantage.Jefferson registered kills on three on the Lady Wildcats final six points.
Erin Hudley led SCSU with 12 kills.
B-CU hosts Savannah State Sunday at 1 p.m.
NOTES: This was Jefferson's 24
th career double-double, and her dig total tied her for the second most in a single match in program history … Eugene now has five matches with 20 digs or more … South Carolina State was held to .093 hitting, the fourth lowest total for an opponent this season … Eight of the B-CU victories have come in 4-set matches … Congrats to B-CU softball for winning the spirit battle over B-CU women's basketball.
