No. 18 N.C. A&T Drops Bethune-Cookman, 35-10

Wildcats lose fourth consecutive to counterparts from Greensboro

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Hall of Fall Weekend 2018 was diminished with Bethune-Cookman's 35-10 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) setback to North Carolina A&T in front of a Daytona Stadium crowd of 6,225 on Saturday afternoon.
 
Redshirt junior quarterback Akevious Williams left the game in the third quarter after he sustained an injury on the Aggies 1-yard line. He fumbled, but senior receiver Keavon Mitchell recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown to help the Wildcats close to within 26-10.
 
North Carolina A&T registered a safety late in the third quarter, then used an eight-play, 85-yard drive in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
 
Lamar Raynard threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns, while Jah-Maine Martin rushed for 107 yards and a score as the Aggies (6-2 overall, 3-1 MEAC) scored on their first three possessions and four of their first five.
 
The Aggies set the tone early-on when Terrence Patterson blocked a Wildcats (4-4, 2-2 MEAC) punt to start their first possession at the BCU 14. The visitors from Greensboro, North Carolina would score six plays later.
 
Bethune-Cookman closed to within 13-3 following a Uriel Hernandez 40-yard field goal with 1:33 remaining in the first quarter, but would go into halftime trailing, 26-3.
 
Williams was 14 of 21 for 108 yards passing before exiting. Steffon Francois caught five passes for 47 yards, and Malique Jackson hauled in four receptions for 31 yards.
 
Jimmie Robinson led the Wildcats rushing attack with 50 yards on five carries.
 
Defensively, Marques Ford and Gerome Howard registered sacks. Tydarius Peters had 12 tackles.
 
Bethune-Cookman travels to Nebraska to face the Cornhuskers out of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) next Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. EST (11 a.m. CST).
