UCF Slows Down @BCUDiamondcats 6-1

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman's second midweek match-up against a nationally ranked opponent saw the Wildcats drop a 6-1 decision to #23 UCF Tuesday at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

After giving up a leadoff single to Joseph Fernando, Knights starter JJ Montgomery no-hit the Wildcats for the rest of his 5 2/3 inning stint as UCF (5-3) used three unearned runs to take the lead.

Bethune-Cookman (3-6) reached the UCF bullpen for six hits in the final three innings, including three in the seventh to produce its only run when Kyle Corbin singled home Zach Spivey.

Fernando was the lone Wildcat with a multiple hit game, going 2-4.

Alexis Herrera took his second loss of the season, but fared better than last week's game in Jacksonville. He scattered eight hits, struck out four and got out of two bases-loaded situations in a game that saw UCF strand 14.

Jordan Pinto also struck out four in his three innings of work, giving up two earned runs on the game's lone extra base hit.

Bethune-Cookman hosts South Florida Wednesday.
