JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –
Zach Spivey pounded out two hits Wednesday evening as Bethune-Cookman fell to North Florida, 6-1 in midweek non-conference baseball action inside Harmon Stadium.
Â
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Bethune-Cookman (13-20) got on the board to half the lead in the top-half of the third frame.
Â
Brady Van Hook doubled to kick off the frame, only to come around and score two plays later off the end of an
Adonis Lao grounder back to the mound.
Â
North Florida (18-15) used a solo home run from centerfielder Tanner Murphy – his 10th of the year, to increase the lead back out to 3-1.
Â
The Ospreys would go on to score runs in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to run away for the 6-1 victory and even the series on the year between the two teams. BCU claimed the midweek matchup between the two teams courtesy an 8-3 win at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark back on March 7.
Â
Cooper Bradford (3-1) collected the win in relief fashion for UNF as he worked three hitless innings and picked up four strikeouts. The loss went to BCU starter
Alexis Herrera (2-4) in working five innings on the bump, giving up four runs on eight hits, a walk and a strikeout.
Â
Junior centerfielder
Zach Spivey led the Cats on offense with a 2-for-4 night at the plate.
Jordan Stacy and Van Hook each had hits apiece.
Â
Bethune-Cookman is back in action this weekend when the Wildcats return to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play against Florida A&M at Sanford Memorial Stadium in Sanford, Florida. The series begins with a doubleheader Saturday, April 14, at 1 p.m.
