Stacy Homers, Lao Scores, and Calamita Wins

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Adonis Lao stole second, then got the green light around third following a throwing error, and tagged home first as Bethune-Cookman won in the bottom of the ninth, 6-5, against Savannah State Saturday at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.

BCU concludes its regular season at 20-32 overall and 14-10 in the MEAC, while Savannah State closes at 7-34, 4-20 in conference play. The Wildcats will begin next week's conference tournament with a 3:30 p.m. start Wednesday, May 16 against Norfolk State at Embry Riddle University in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Lao began the two-out rally with a single to left field, his second hit of the day, and one batter later began his trip around the bags.

The Wildcats scored the game's first five runs. Jordan Stacy scorched a two-run homer in the first inning, his first of the season. BCU scored two more in the third off three hits. Danny Rodriguez sent a deep sacrifice fly to centerfield, and Stacy came through again with an RBI single.

In the fourth, Jake Hellweg singled with one out to right field. He stole second, and then took third on a throwing error. Corbin made it a 5-0 lead with an RBI single to right field.

After SSU pushed across four runs, two unearned, in the fifth, the Tigers tied it in the seventh on a Freddie Landers fielder's choice.

Joey Calamita earned the win on Senior Day to move to 1-0 with two innings, one hit, two strikeouts, and no walks.

David Mata pitched 2.1 innings in relief with one earned run, and starter Alexis Herrera allowed two earned off five hits in 4.2 innings.
