• Bethune-Cookman has played four previous games against opponents from Conference USA, including FIU (2013, '14), UCF (2014) and Florida Atlantic (2017).
• Bethune-Cookman welcomes new offensive line coach
Prince Pearson to his first-ever time along an MEAC sideline after the veteran offensive line coach has walked the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) sidelines for a number of years.
• Bethune-Cookman will be looking to snap a string of back-to-back losses to the Owls, including last year's 45-0 decision.
Â

• Florida Atlantic leads the all-time series against Bethune-Cookman, 3-1.
• FAU won its first-ever game as a football playing institution against Bethune-Cookman.
• BCU played its first-ever NCAA postseason contest in the FCS Playoffs (formerly the Division I-AA playoffs) at Municipal Stadium back in 2003.

Â
The Coach
Head Coach
Terry Sims is now in his fourth year at the helm of the Bethune-Cookman Football program. The Knoxville alum holds a record of 21-13 overall with the Maroon and Gold, and holds just an 0-1 record as a collegiate head coach against Florida Atlantic – that coming as a setback in Boca Raton just a season ago.
Â
The Weather
Projected temperatures on game day: Daytona Beach – 95/77. Boca Raton, Fla. – 91/77 (60% chance of rain).
Â
#HighFive —
1.
Que'shaun Byrd became the first FCS player in 2018 to return a kickoff for touchdown, catch a touchdown pass and rush for a touchdown in the same game, as BCU rolled up a 79-16 win over VUL last weekend.
2. BCU is seeking its second win all-time over FAU.
3. Bethune-Cookman will be seeking its third win over a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent, while the other two have both come against FIU in 203 and '14, respectively.
4. The Wildcats will play four of their first five games of the year on the road.
5. With Head Coach
Terry Sims being a native of Jesup, Georgia, BCU has three (3) players from Jesup on this year's roster.
Â
A Win Over Florida Atlantic Would —
• Give Head Coach
Terry Sims his 22nd win overall.
• Be the 495th win all-time in school history.
• Allow the Wildcats their third win all-time against an FBS opponent.
• Give BCU its third win all-time against an opponent from Conference USA.
Â
Notes From The Last Meeting —
• With 619 yards of total offense allowed was the most since prior to the 2006 season. Bethune-Cookman had given up 561 yards a season ago at home to North Carolina A&T.
• For the second time in three seasons, BCU was shutout in the South Florida area. BCU was also shutout 45-0 by Miami (Fla.) to begin the 2015 campaign.
• Redshirt junior offensive lineman
Troy Wilkins II took his first career snaps on the defensive line in the third quarter. He went on to register a tackle in the fourth quarter.
• The loss takes BCU to 2-8 all-time against teams from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), including an 0-4 mark under Head Coach
Terry Sims in games against Miami (2x), Florida Atlantic and North Texas, respectfully.
• Former quarterback and current wide receiver
Anthony Cruz took a total of three snaps under center for the Wildcats, including two to end the opening half. In the process, the Brooklyn, New York native attempted one pass to conclude the first half.
Â
#OneDestruction —
• The hashtag and theme for Bethune-Cookman Athletics across the 2018-19 athletic term is #OneDestruction.
• A destruction, in essence, is a group of wild cats together. With Bethune-Cookman being the Wildcats, it seemed only natural that BCU become ONE DESTRUCTION to prey on the opposition.
Â
ESPN+ And The Wildcats —
• It was announced earlier this week that Bethune-Cookman and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has partnered together to produce four (4) home games at Daytona Stadium for the Wildcats.
• Bethune-Cookman is one of several schools around the league that are introducing ESPN+ as a platform to watch their contests.
• For a complete list of games around the MEAC, visit MEACsports.com.
Â
#CaliCats —
• It may be up for debate as to which team was the first to bring west coast talent from California to the "Sunshine State" of Florida, but the invasion is truly underway for BCU Football now.
• Senior Writer and Historian
Dan Ryan of the BCU Communications Office has developed a piece on all California student-athletes for, not just football, but across all 17 sports at Bethune-Cookman with the #CaliCats.
• Each piece written will be posted regularly to BCUathletics.com.
Â
Six Quarters Equals A Back —
• It's been a staple of the Bethune-Cookman Football program to use a multiple quarterback system since the conclusion of the 2010 campaign. That will be no different in 2018 under Head Coach
Terry Sims and Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach
Allen Suber.
• The Wildcats not only return
Akevious Williams (R-Jr.) and
Jabari Dunham under center (R-Sr.), but they welcome West Virginia transfer
David Israel (R-Soph.),
Terry Gilliam (Fr.),
Kyle Smith (Fr.) and
Devin Black (Fr.).
