Ryan: Seven Things We Learned About @BCUhoops and @BCU WBB In Non-Conference Play
DURHAM, N.C. -- Bethune-Cookman begins its quest for a fourth consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season championship Saturday when the Lady Wildcats meet North Carolina Central at 2 p.m.
The Lady Wildcats (7-5) are 42-6 in MEAC regular season play during this championship and enter Saturday's game on a 17-game road winning streak in league games. The last road loss was a 53-48 setback at Florida A&M on Feb. 20, 2016.
BCU has had four consecutive winning seasons in league play, its longest stretch in program history.
Last year, BCU downed NCCU 57-47 behind 20 points and eight rebounds from
Angel Golden.
This is BCU's fourth straight game away from the friendly confines of Moore Gymnasium and part of a three-game road swing to start MEAC play. Next week, the Lady Wildcats will play at Howard and Norfolk State.
BCU UPDATE: The Lady Wildcats' non-conference record was one win shy of last year's program best of 8-4; South Carolina State and Howard also had 7-5 marks … Golden is 2nd in the MEAC and 23rd in the nation in scoring at 20.4 ppg… She needs 26 points to past Lauren Forsthoff's total of 1,094 for ninth on the all-time scoring list and nine three-pointers to overtake Keturah Newkirk's 201 for second in that category …
Chasimmie Brown has regained her lead for FG% (56.6) in the conference; the senior needs two blocks to surpass Assistant Coach
Demetria Frank for fifth on the all-time list …
Kiana Williams is third in the MEAC with 4.5 assists and has reached double figuring scoring the last six times she's suited up … BCU has won the rebounding battle in five of its last seven games.
NCCU UPDATE: The Eagles (3-10) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 55-49 win over Wilberforce earlier this week … Rodneysha Martin is averaging 17.8 ppg while Paulina Afriyie is posting 13.5 ppg and 8.9 rebounds.
