DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Jordan Jefferson double-doubled with 18 kills and 21 digs, but Bethune-Cookman's rally from a two-set deficit fell short as Florida A&M posted a 3-2 (25-23,25-15,19-25,21-25,15-8) Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory Tuesday in Moore Gym.
The junior from San Antonio had missed the last the three matches due to injury, but posted her 38
th career double-double as the Lady Wildcats (5-13 overall, 2-2 MEAC) and Rattlers (4-12,3-1) played their first five-set match since the 2008 MEAC tournament semifinals.
FAMU scored six unanswered points to pull away from a 2-2 tie in the fifth set. BCU got as close as 12-7 on two Jefferson kills, but that was it.
Trailing 2-0, BCU kept the match alive by scoring four unanswered points to turn a 17-16 deficit  into a 20-17 lead on a
Kaylan Curry kill. FAMU closed to 21-19 before the Lady Wildcats scored the final four points of the set.
BCU never trailed in the fourth set after taking early leads of 7-3 and 12-6. The Lady Wildcats led by as many as seven points as they extended a match to five sets for the third time this year.
Miranda White added eight kills for BCU, while
Alleah Dallas had seven kills and six blocks.
Jade Smith also had six blocks in addition to two kills and a service ace.
Setter
Ryleigh Taylor had season highs of 37 assists and five kills in addition to 14 digs. Libero
Shayla Eugene had 22 digs.
The Lady Wildcats host North Carolina A&T Friday at 6 p.m.
