WASHINGTON, D.C. – Bethune-Cookman meets Morgan State in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference volleyball tournament Friday night at 8 p.m. at Howard University.
The Lady Wildcats (8-23) enter as the third seed from the Southern Division while the Bears (16-12) are the Northern Division' second seed. Friday's winner meets the winner of the North Carolina A&T-Maryland-Eastern Shore match in an 8 p.m. semifinal Saturday. The championship match is slated for 8 p.m. Sunday.
This is the ninth time BCU and Morgan State have met in the MEAC tournament, with each team winning four. Morgan State won in five sets when the teams met during the regular season.
BCU UPDATE: Faith Landreneaux burst back on to the MEAC's stats leader page – injuries kept her under the 66.7 percent appearance minimum until last weekend. She's second in hitting percentage (.375) and fourth in blocks (.91 per set) …
Ryleigh Taylor is eighth in assists (5.52 per set) and
Jordan Jefferson eighth in digs (3.62) …
Shayla Eugene's school record 39 digs lifted her into the MEAC lead at 4.41 per set … There's the mathematical chance that Eugene could reach 1,000 career digs – all it would take is the Lady Wildcats making the championship match and her averaging 29 digs a match …
Alleah Dallas hit .279 during league play … Jefferson needs two kills to move into fourth on the all-time list … BCU is 4-4 in the MEAC tournament in the
Brittany Williams era, including the program's only championship match appearance in 2015.
