ATLANTA – Bethune-Cookman ventures in Atlantic Coast Conference territory once again as the Wildcats face Georgia Tech Sunday at 6 p.m. at McCamish Pavilion.
The Wildcats have taken the ACC the wire in each of the first two years of the
Ryan Ridder era. 2017 saw BCU drop a 65-62 decision to the Yellow Jackets that was later vacated. Last year, BCU threw a scare into Miami before the Hurricanes escaped with a 78-70 win.
BCU (5-2) enters Sunday on a four-game winning streak and off to the program's best start since 1976-77.
BCU UPDATE:Cletrell Pope has had 28 double-doubles in his BCU career, including a 22-17 against St. Francis last time out on Nov. 24. Pope has garnered all three MEAC Defensive Player Of The Week honors this season and sweep Player Of The Week and Defensive Player honors this week. Pope ranks third in the nation in rebounding at 12.6. Bethune-Cookman is 35th in the country in turnovers forced per game (17.9) ... Senior guard/forward
Isaiah Bailey leads the Wildcats in scoring at 13.9 points and 3.1 assists, shooting 50 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from the free throw line....Bethune-Cookman has assists on 43 of 81 field goals (53.1 percent) during its past three games.
ABOUT GEORGIA TECH: Georgia Tech has dropped back-to-back games to SEC competition by a combined total of five points. Sophomore guard Michael Devoe opened the season with a pair of 22-point performances and 34 points against Georgia before scoring just 12 in the Arkansas loss, but leads the ACC and is 15th nationally in scoring (22.5 points). Senior forward/center James Banks III averages 13.8 points, leads the Yellow Jackets in rebounding average at 9.8 and ranks second in the nation in blocked shots per game (4.5). Georgia Tech is holding opponents to 34.2 percent shooting from the field, second in the ACC and fourth in the country.
