WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Bethune-Cookman University's 2019-20 Indoor Track Season begins this weekend at the JDL Kickoff Classic/JDL Early Bird Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Head Coach
Donald Cooper begins his 11
th season after bidding farewell to some of the stalwarts of his program such as
Jeremiah Peters,
Dominic Harper,
Deja Davis and
Quamecha Morrison but primed to make a run at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship.
Leading returners include defending indoor champions
Monae Nichols (long jump) and
Carlin Berryhill (3000 meters). Berryhill would go on to win the 3000 meter steeplechase at the outdoor championships later that year while Nichols would qualify for the NCAA national meet in Austin, Texas. Also back: outdoor decathlon champion
Marc McCoy.
Also returning for his senior season:
Jordan Williams, who ran in the 2017 NCAA Outdoor National Championship.
BCU's always strong jumps representation will be led by
Kelton Williams,
Isaiah Galloway and
JaiQuan Earls.
Thea Shaw, who finished third in the pentathlon at last year's indoor championship, joins Nichols as a top returner along with
Jayla Hill (throws).
