LANDOVER, Md. –  Bethune-Cookman has six event favorites for this weekend's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Indoor Track And Field Championships at Prince George's Sports And Learning Complex.
Deja Davis (5000),
Quamecha Morrison (High Jump),
Monae Nichols (Long Jump and Pentathlon),
Dominic Harper (Pole Vault),
Jeremiah Peters (Shot Put) and
Tyson Wright (Heptathlon) posted the top efforts among MEAC performers heading into the championships, which begin Thursday at 2 p.m. and conclude Saturday.
Last year, BCU finished second in the women's competition and third in the men.
Jeremiah Peters and
Jonina Brinson were named Outstanding Field Performers.
Peters, a senior, was also named Outstanding Field Performer at the Outdoor championships.
Harper, also senior, is going for his fourth consecutive combined MEAC championship and fifth overall.
Morrison enters the meet ranked 15
th in the nation in the high jump and is looking to advance to the NCAA Indoor National Championship for the second straight year. She has four MEAC championships to her credit.
Davis is also expected to contend in the 3000 meters.
Nichols and Wright lead strong Wildcat contingents in the pentathlon and heptathlon. Nichols, Morrison and
Thea Shaw have the three top heptathlon scores while Wright,
Brent Heholt and Marc McCoy enter the pentathlon seeded 1-2-5.
