DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – North Carolina Central reached
Anthony Maldonado and Bethune-Cookman as the Wildcats dropped their first Friday night game of the season as the Eagles won 15-1 in the opener of a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
The Eagles (8-10, 2-2) took Maldonado, the MEAC Preseason pitcher of the year, for 10 hits and nine runs before chasing him in the sixth. It's his first loss of the season.
Corey Joyce went 6-6 with a homer and four RBI to pace the Eagles, who broke open a 1-1 tie with four in the fifth and five in the sixth.
BCU (7-11, 2-2) took a 1-0 lead when
Josten Heron scored on a wild pitch in the third.
Nate Sterijevski extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an eighth-inning RBI single, while
Robert Bell hit a two-run single, also in the eighth.
The two teams meet again Saturday at 4 p.m.
