DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman salvaged its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference series with North Carolina Central with a 12-2 victory late Saturday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
After the Eagles (9-11 overall, 3-3) clinched the series with an 8-7 victory in the doubleheader opener, Â
Chase DeBonis drove in five runs as Bethune-Cookman (8-12,3-3) run-ruled the visitors with a season-high offensive output.
DeBonis cleared the bases with a double in the fourth as BCU erased a 2-0 deficit with a four-run outburst.
BCU increased its lead to 7-2 with three unearned runs in the fifth, then in the seventh, DeBonis drove in two more runs as part of a five-run seventh that ended with
Josten Heron scoring on a walk-off wild pitch for the 10-run victory.
Brady Van Hook went 3-3 while
Over Torres and Heron had two hits apiece.
Seth Lovell picked up the win, scattering five hits.
In the opener, North Carolina Central capitalized on 13 walks and broke open a 2-2 tie with a five-run fifth.
BCU closed to 8-7 with a three-run eighth.
Heron drove in two runs in the first game, while
Nate Sterijevski,
Robert Bell, Van Hook and DeBonis had two hits each.
BCU hosts Stetson Tuesday.
