BCU Downed Wednesday

Six-run first dooms 'Cats

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Six Alabama A&M runs in the first inning were too much to overcome in a 7-4 Bethune-Cookman setback on a windy Wednesday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

The Wildcats (9-17) clawed back after allowing the Bullodgs (8-20) to score six runs to score off just three hits in the first.

Over Torres hit an RBI double in the third.

An inning later, Zach Spivey scored Danny Rodriguez on a groundout, and Clarence Carter sliced an RBI double to make it a 7-3 game.

A throwing error following Joe Fernando's steal of third cut the deficit to three in the sixth.

Alabama A&M starter Jose Figueroa pitched a complete game, walking two and striking out three to move to 1-1 on the year.
Bryan Melendez pushed through four innings of relief work with no runs off four hits. He did not issue a walk and had two strikeouts.

Jake Simon (0-1) took the loss after giving up the six earned in the first.

BCU hits the road for a three-game non-conference series at Wichita State this weekend. Action begins Friday, Mar. 29.
