Maldonado Strong In @BCUDiamondcats' WSU Series Opener

WICHITA, Kan. – Bethune-Cookman dropped a 2-0 decision to Wichita State in Friday's rainy afternoon game that opened a three-game series.

The Wildcats (9-18) had a strong showing from senior Anthony Maldonado on the mound. He threw a season-long eight innings, giving up just two runs and three hits while striking out six.

"Maldonado threw the ball well today and he competed," said BCU Head Coach Johnny Hernandez. "He gave us a chance and today we lacked run support for him."

Clarence Carter, Nate Sterijevski, Joseph Fernando and Josten Heron reached base on hits for BCU.

Wichita State (14-12)  used three pitchers, with starter Preston Snavely earning the win with a three-hitter. Aaron Haase gave up one hit before being relieved by Mitchell Walters in the ninth.

BCU continues the series Saturday at 3 p.m.
