DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- One day after sweeping Mount St. Mary's, Bethune-Cookman was held scoreless by Ball State in a doubleheader Wednesday at Sunnyland Park.
The visiting Cardinals (14-9) took the opener 1-0 on a sixth inning RBI by Kenzie McCarty, who homered in the fifth inning of the night cap that Ball State won 2-0.
BCU (7-16) had two good pitching efforts –
Alexis Bermudez and
Destiny Enriquez combined on a six-hitter in the opener, while Enriquez gave up just four hits and struck out four in the second.
However, BCU managed just
Jacki Smith and
Cheyenne Smith singles in the first game.
The Wildcats' best scoring opportunity in the second game came in the fifth with
Kayla Traylor on third and Jackie Smith on two, but the Cardinals registered the third out to keep the 2-0 lead.
Kaiya Epps-Lee had two hits for the Wildcats in the nightcap.
BCU heads to nearby DeLand this weekend for the Stetson Invitational, facing UT-Martin Friday at 11 a.m., Fairfield and Maryland Saturday at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., then Fairfield and host Stetson at noon and 2:30 Sunday.
